Novelty Knees is a peculiar name derived from a nickname a friend gave me. It refers to my knee size. He said my knees were so tiny they were “novelty size.” It was a bizarre observation that made me laugh. I figured the nickname could work as the title of my first zine too.
When I began making zines, I wasn’t making too many comics. Back then, I filled sketchbooks with random drawings. The zines I bought were by artists like Travis Millard and Jay Howell. People you’d read about in Juxtapose magazine and Fecal Face/FFDG. Inspired by the content these artists put in their zines, Novelty Knees became a zine of drawings and photos.
